Monday, October 5, 2009

I teased about the Boo blocks in my other tutorial so I had to make them! I did not use the paper I said I was going to use though. I used the BoBunny paper. Here are some pictures of how to make these blocks.

Start with 3 blocks of wood. Mine are 5 x 3.25 and about 1.5 inches thick. I got the piece of wood at Home Depot, they cut it down for me, and then I brought them home and sanded them. I then painted them with a glossy black paint.

I glue down my solid cardstock. I used a green from my stash.
Image

Then layered over my BoBunny printed paper.
Image

I added the orange cardstock and striped papers down the left side of each block and added a 7 Gypsies word strip.
Image

Then I cut letters with my Cricut, ran them through my Cuttlebug, and glued them to the blocks.
Image

Next I took the BoBunny stickers, trimmed them a bit to fit better on the blocks, and adhered them with pop dots. Then added Kaiser bling to the blocks for a little extra oomph!

So here are the finished blocks:
Image

Image

They are really simple and so fun to make. I get together with my girlfriends and we have a blast putting them together. We actually gave this set to a good friend that didn't make our first set with us and she LOVED them!!! We have made red, white, and blue USA blocks for the 4th, FALL, BOO, HOME, JOY, and HO HO HO so far. We are teaching a class in 2 weeks to a group of ladies and we will be making JOY and Ho Ho Ho there. Should be fun!

Kit Close Up-Wiggly Eyes

Martha include some really cute and fun wiggly eyes with the Halloween Mega kit.

Image
See them there!

I was so excited to play with these. I've never actually used wiggly eyes on a layout before, although I have seen them used and thought they were adorable! Now having done so, I want to run to the store and get more. I loved them! They were easy to stick on with a dot of glue and they transform the little characters into the most adorable little guys!

Here is how I used them -

You know how you get those beautiful papers with large designs on them and you aren't sure how to use them? You don't want to cover it up, but should you cut it out or work around it or just go ahead and layer over it or . . . ? I sometimes get stuck with what to do with these kind of papers.

The Halloween kit had a few of these papers. The design was adorable and I really wanted it to stand out. I found a sketch that I could use with a lot of white space

Image
(pagemaps of course!)

and placed my picture so a lot of the background would show in the white space. To make the background images stand out even more, I added the googly eyes. Now these bats where so cute to begin with. The eyes just really help them to pop off the page!

Image

Image

That was one of the Fancy Pants papers. There was also a Bo Bunny paper with a big design on it.

Image

I really wanted to use the paper as is, without cutting. If I cut the ghosts out I would loose some detail, like the little spiders and the web and the title. I could have used more wiggly eyes here, but I already used what I had on my first layout. I decided to stickle the spider eyes and ghosts to help them pop. I also cut around a tiny part of one ghost that was going to get covered over.

Image

Image

It is hard to see the sparkle in the photos, but its there!

There is one more paper with a large design on it. Its by Fancy Pants.

Image

I think I will cut this up to make some "Boo Blocks." I'll post them when I am done!

2 More

Here are 2 more layouts I did with this kit!

Another Halloween layout. I used the sketch over at http://magpieclub.blogspot.com/ for this layout. I love the results too!
Image
I know I have used this picture over and over but I have 4 kids and had to make them each a layout for their individual books. I should just make one family album!

and I wanted to do a layout that wasn't anything Halloween with the kit. Here it is:

My SD4U Halloween Mega Kit Projects

SD4U has 3 great kits this month and I got to play with the Halloween Mega kit. I've created a bunch of stuff so far. This kit is packed!!!

My first project is this gift bag. Its folded from one piece of 12 x 12 paper! The directions were on the Cosmo Cricket blog last week or so. Its so cute and easy!

This first layout is mostly Bo Bunny Boo Crew products with a little 7 Gypsies and Thickers too.

My wall hanging project using the Fancy Pants journaling cards.

Another June Bug Layout

This was for week 4 of the Treasured Hunt contest. Here are my details.

- one picture only
- at least 3 leaves (I cut these from a piece of June Bug pattern paper)
- stitching - hand stitching around the diamond quilt squares
- some recycled piece of packaging - on the top and bottom edge of the picture matting are pieces from a package of Prima flowers. Its bluish and scallop-y
- journaling of at least 50 words including "I am not willing to..."

I am not willing to admit it. I know, I know. I can see it when I look at this picture. You aren't this little girl anymore. But when I look at you everyday, you are still my little girl! I don't want to admit that you are almost 9. Time is changing you, and ultimately that is a good thing. But still, I am not willing to admit it!"

- original designs only - no sketches, please

I used June Bug pattern paper and stickers
Bazzil scalloped cardstock
Stickles
AC Thickers
Maya Road shear Remember card
Hand punched butterflies
Prima packaging
Misc embroidery thread

Unfortunately I am not moving on, but I will participate in the 2nd chance competition.

A girl layout by the pool (so also summery).

And a baby layout. Aren't those Prima cherry blossoms so pretty?

I know I will get many, many more projects with this kit! I'll post them as I get them done too!

What have you created with June Bug?

ScrapbookDeals4u.com September Kits

They are now for sale in the store. Martha has decided to offer not two, but three kit choices monthly with an occassional speciality kit too. It just so happens that there are 3 regular kits this month and 2 specials! That makes FIVE choices this month. (Actually, we are down to 4 choices because Garden Grove already sold out)

So here they are: The wonderful September kits at Scrapbook Deals 4 U.

My Minds Eye Blog Challenge

MME Challenge

They are having another challenge and this time its to use any of their product on a 2 page layout based on a Becky Fleck Page Maps sketch. I seem to have problems with 2 pagers lately. But I still did it. I can't pass up a Page Maps sketch! I used the Bloom and Grow paper from the SD4U August kit. Here is my layout.

and here is the Becky Fleck sketch:

Treasured Scrapbooking - The Treasured Hunt 2009

Treasured Scrapbooking is hosting a fun contest right now. Each week they post a challenge. You complete the challenge and the dt votes on who gets to move on. We are currently in week 2.

The first week was just to get elligible players. You could upload any layout you wanted. I chose my MME Breaking Free layout.

I was one of 30 that moved on to the first week.

The week 1 challenge was to create a ONE page layout with at least one circle (3 inches or bigger), torn paper, only ONE photo, and journaling including "I wish someone had told me that..."

And this is my layout for that challenge.

There were many great layouts for this week and I was selected to be one of 23 that moved on!

Week 2 is our current week. The challenge is to create a ONE page layout with at least 3 pictures, 4 different patterned papers (no more, no less), 2 colors of cardstock (no more, no less), at least one arrow, buttons or beads, and journaling that includes..."If I were honest with myself...". It can be as long or as short as you like but must include those words. It also must be an original design - no sketches please!

SO this is the layout I just did for this week.

Here is a close up of the inside journaling and a side view.

All layouts for this week must be uploaded by Monday and those moving on are announced on Tuesday. Fingers crossed that I get to move on to the next week!

But here they are, all 17 items!

Used Crate Paper Prudence from an older ScrapbookDeals4U.com kit. I think most of my layouts came from kits from SD4U!

SD4U Blog Hop

Hi and welcome to my blog!

Today is the second ever blog hop at SD4U. If you would like to see the other blogs in this hop, please visit the SD4U forum thread at this link

Here is the sketch I used.

Have you seen this sketch site? twistedsketches.com Its fun. They post a sketch and one other element to include in the layout. This is sketch #8. The "twist" is to use at least one flower on your layout.

And here is my layout with the sketch.

I love this Crate Paper line. In addition to the Crate Paper, I used Making Memories flowers and brads, and Jillibean soup letters. I did move the title from the sketch placements, but that is what sketches are all about. Taking the main ideas and running with them.

I hope you like my layout and have fun hopping today! If you leave a comment I will do a random drawing for a RAK. If you are a follower to my blog, you will be entered a second time!
I will draw a winner Sunday night. Good luck and have a great weekend!

My last Summer Soiree

Here is the last layout I did with the August kit, Summer Soiree.

Martha just put the kits in the store and after the people with subscriptions picked theirs for the month, there is only 1 Summer Soiree left and 3 Bloom and Grows. Don't wait if you want one of these kits. They will sell out!

Also, I hosted a little craft night earlier this week. Two of my fun friends came over to make a project with me. Remember the USA blocks I made with the July kit? Well, we did a Halloween version. . .

LOVE IT! They turned out so cute!

Anyone else want to craft with us?

My August Pages for SD4U

So here is what I made with this beautiful kit! SD4U Store

Image
My Weston and his cousine Ellie at the lake just last Saturday. I think this is the soonest I have ever scrapped a picture after taking it, lol. I just loved this one of them together. They are just about a year apart. The striped paper is pleated and I love that little bit of dimension with just paper! The kit also comes with a Queen and Co felt title and I cut it apart for this title and felt embellishments on the left.

Image
My 3 at the same lake as above last Saturday. This is based on a 52 sketches sketch. I added the green rick rack from an older kit and the brads and label holder from a peachycheap.com purchase. The brads and label holder are Fancy Pants.

Image
My kids in the back yard last summer. You know when you use a border punch on your edges and how a little strip gets cut off? I usually just throw that away. This time I decided to use it on my layout. That very thin strip of green paper was the cut off strip when I used my threading water punch on the dotted paper. Gotta love double sided papers!

Image
The heat wave title comes in the kit layered with a glimmer misted sun layered on top. I added the black outlines and stickles to the title. I think this is a great addition to the kits!

Here is a close up of that title:
Image

and this is my most favorite layout from the kit!

Image
Those little felt embellies are awesome. I added some stickles to them. I love the little sparkle that gives.

I also glimmer misted the Seashore title that Martha included in the kit. Then added stickles to define the image on the sand dollar. Here is a close up of that.
Image

What do you think of the precut titles? I think they are really fun!

I still have my mini book I am working on. Hopefully I can show you that soon!

Thanks for looking.

SD4u August kits

Here is the full reveal of the August kits!

These two kits are wonderful! I know the Summer Soiree has been a very popular line but...
the product added to go along with it is AWESOME! There are also some really cute sea shells not pictured in the kit too. This kit has tons and one of a kind embellishments! You will not regret getting this kit!

Bloom & Grow, the second kit, is another beautiful line! The colors are fantastic! At first it looks a bit girly but there are ways to use the "B" sides and get not girly pages too! Tons of embellishments with this kit too.

Both paper lines are double sided so you get double the choice! SCORE

Here are the pictures of both kits! Members have started picking their kits, and the remaining kits will go on sale in the store on Saturday July 25th.

Enjoy!

Independence Day Decoration Tutorial

I have a really cute and really easy 4th of July project to share with you. The hardest part of this is a little painting. I used Dream Street MJ paper on one set and Scenic Route on the other set.

First, here are your supplies.

Image
3 wooden blocks
red paint
a foam brush
3 large pieces of pattern paper to cover the font side of the block
3 smaller pieces for the "stars"
a U, S, and A (I cut them with my Cricut)
3 stars (I cut these with my Slice)
3 hand punched circles or hearts
3 fasteners (I used star snaps, you could use brads)
ink for distressing

Start by painting your blocks
Image
I left the side I was adhering the paper raw because I didn't want to run out of paint. I was painting 6 blocks and I olny had a small thing of paint.

After letting them dry, adhere your large pieces of paper to the block.
Image
I tried to pick paper that was mainly red, mainly white, and mainly blue. I wanted them in that order.

Then ink all your pieces! (this step is optional)
Image

Next, sandwich together your star, heart/circle, snap.
Image

Adhere your smaller squares, the letters, and your stars.
Image

And you are done!

Place it somewhere and you have an easy 4th of July decoration!
Image
This one is made with the July MJ kit.

Here is another one I made with Scenic Route's 4th of July paper that came out last year.
Image
I like the letters on this one better. I didn't have a font like this for the MJ set though. Also, this one is not inked.

You can see how the two sets are similar, but still unique. What other projects could you make with this same process? I have lots of wood still! I might have to make more decorations.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial!

July MJ Peeks

This kit is so great! I've loved what I've made so far. I even gave something I made with the kit to my dad for Father's Day. He liked it, but my mom loved it! You will have to wait to see what I am talking about, but I can show you a few little sneaks!

Here are my peeks so far. I am not done creating yet though:
