My Origins Kit from SD4U

This kit is so beautiful and so much fun to play with. The patterns can be a little tricky, but with some planning and consideration, the layouts turn out beautifully! All the embellishments are great too! I have almost used my entire kit up with these 6 layouts!

Image
This is Weston with a typical 1st grade mouth, full of holes! He often does not want his picture taken. I try to suprise him with the camera. The pic on the right is one of those surprise pics. I think its from the end of summer and he is sporting a nice swimmers tan! I love the black ric rac in the kit!

Image
Here is Wade with the 3D glasses from a Toy Story movie. Lots of Glimmer Mist on the die-cut round paper and the cream paper under the ribbon.

Image
A fairly recent picture of me with some personal journaling. Kylie wanted me to explain it to her, and I couldn't. She just doesn't need to know all the grown up details yet. Don't you just love the BG woolies?

Image
Wade on our backyard swing set that we had to leave at our old house. This layout made all my kids sad! They miss their old backyard. Something interesting about this layout-I was trying to get that butterfly rubon to stick down to the photo and it just wouldn't stick. It has glitter in the rubon (SO PRETTY), but the slick photo didn't have enough grab. I think it would have stuck to paper ok, but I wanted it on the photo. Instead of rubbing until my fingers fell off, I decided to trim around the butterfly. I adhered it like a transparency rather that a rubon! I don't think you can even really tell either. So there is my little hint! If your rub-on won't rub-on, use it like a transparency piece!

Image
This is a pic I took with my dad's dSLR in the summer. I love this pic! Its Wes on his b-day at my mom's swimming pool.

Image
These pics are from when Steve and I went to Chicago last spring for a medical billing conference. One night we went to Wrigley Field for a game. Steve was in heaven. I still plan on journaling on this one. The edges of the pp are torn and folded back. The dark spots on the layout are because I took this pic when it had rained and their were water drops on my windows. I was trying to use the sunshine that we had between storms and this one ended up looking a little spotted. The spots are not there in real life!

So, there you go. There are my layouts with the Origins kit. Such a pretty kit, and yet I made almost all boy layouts! What will you make with your kit?

More with Pink Paislee

My Jan 15th challenge at scrapbookdeals4u.com is to scraplift a member of our gallery. Cheryl created a wonderful layout that I used for the challenge. More details about the challenge are found here: CHALLENGE

This is my sample!

I am also hosting the card challenge this time around and I chose a great PageMaps sketch as my starting point. This is the sketch:

And my Sample

Details about this contest can be found here: CHALLENGE

Basic Grey's monthly newsletter had a great sketch in it that I used to create this layout. I didn't use BG though. This is more Pink Paislee, MM flowers, and Prima kisses.

MyMind's Eye had a fun sketch on their blog that I used as inspiration for this layout. I didn't use MME product though so I can't enter it in to the contest for them. I still really like the results though.

These are what I created while waiting for my February kit from Martha. Stay tuned for those projects to be coming soon!

Page Maps Contest

There is another contest at PageMaps. This contest is in conjunction with the new Basic Grey website. Have you checked it out yet? They have digital stuff! Anyway, this is my layout for the contest.

February Kits at Scrapbookdeals4u.com

Here is the one NON Valentine kit...featuring the Basic Grey Origins line. This kit is really beautiful and you will love it! This is the line I am working with this month.

And here are the two Valentine kits that you get to choose from. One is vintagy and the other is bright and playful. The first one features Fancy Pants and beautiful embellishments to go with it. The 2nd one features the Bo Bunny "Love Bandit" AND "Persuasion" lines. Love both of these kits and I will be working with them soon!

So head on ove to SD4U and grab yours before they are all gone!

Using Up

the last of my January kit.

Cards made with just a few scraps.

Weston's Kinder Class Photo, inspired by sketch #48 by Kristine Davidson for SD4U.

Here is the sketch:

And I know the title is spelled wrong. I took out the extra G since taking the pic. I just didn't have any more good light in the day to retake the photo.

And with those projects, by kit is gone!

A Layout Tutorial with my Jan kit

I almost always start with a sketch. It gets me started and I don't sit staring at my supplies for very long when I am inspired by a sketch. Most of the time it looks different from the original start as I like to make the sketches my own.

For this layout, I had a lot of pictures I wanted to use all together. I looked for a sketch that had several photos. I chose this sketch from Sketch Inspirations:
Image

I had my kit supplies all out and I matted my photos with white cardstock to start. I used 4x5.25 photos that I had printed by Snapfish. I cut my mats 4.25x5.5in, 1/4 in bigger than the photos. I cut all the mats from 1 sheet of 8.5x11 paper.
Image

I then placed my photos in the design of the sketch. I had to move them around a bit to get the right amount of overlap. It would have been easier to arrange them if I had trimmed the photos down, but I wanted to leave them large. I then adhered the photos and used foam tape behind the top left photo. I wanted that one to stand out above the others.
Image

I then chose two strips of contrasting pattern paper cut to roughly 1.5 inches wide and placed them on either side of my photo group. This is different from the sketch but I liked the way it looked. These strips were actually leftovers from another layout. I also added that little chipboard bird from the kit too.
Image

I placed word strip stickers on the right like the sketch, a journaling block on the left, a center sticker, and my title across the top of my main photo. I chose that title placement to help draw the eye to my main photo.
Image

The bird needed something to perch on so I cut a swirl with my cricut and used half of it under the bird.
Image

Then I added stickles to the swirl and to the centers of the flowers on the main pattern paper.
Image

And I was done!
Image

I hope you can see how easy it is to get lots of photos on one page and how great sketches are! I love sketches.

Sorry for all the flash spots in the tutorial photos. I was working late at night and couldn't figure out how to photograph without them but still get a clear picture.

These are my oldest nieces and nephews. They got dumped on this month, more snow in their town than its had in 40 years! This was the picture their mom sent as their Christmas card. I just loved it and had to scrap it. I think its such a fun photo. I love how the colors of the photo work with the colors in these papers!

This is my dad and his younger brother in the 50s. This is one of my most favorite pictures ever!

Mid Month Challenges at SD4U

Everyone has posted their mid-month challenge at scrapbookdeals4u.com Come on over to the forum to see what they are. You can get a sneak peek at my challenge here on my blog.

My mid-month challenge is for you to scraplift a layout I have picked from the gallery. We have such talented members and can find tons of inspiration in our own gallery! Have you snooped around in there lately? Good, good stuff in there!

Anyway,

The layout I have picked is by KIX! Joni's style is awesome. She uses large photos and always seems to have some hybrid element to her layouts. This is my choice for this month:

Image

Pick something from Joni's layout to be inspired by and scraplift it. Whether it be the large photo, the mixture of fonts, the tied buttons, the squares of paper, the rub-ons, etc. Let's see what you come up with based on being inspired by Joni's layout!

Here is my sample!
Image
I loved the structure of her layout and the tied buttons. I did not have a large photo so I used 3 smaller photos in the same position. I love how all the October Afternoon papers from the Mega kit come together on this layout! This is a great way to use lots of patterns!

I can't wait to see how you are inspired by Joni's layout.

All layouts for the mid-month challenges need to be posted to the gallery folder by the last day of the month to be eligible for the randomly drawn prize. The winner will be announced on the 1st!

PageMaps Sketch Contest

I love sketches and I especially love PageMaps. Here is my latest PM layout created for the most recent contest on that site.

and here is the sketch

Check out PageMaps if you would like to participate!

My December Challenge at Scrapbookdeals4u.com

Create something holiday related (card, layout, altered item) with a scalloped element on it.
Image
My FaLaLa mantle decoration!

1. Select papers to cover the entire chipboard houses. Adhere the houses to the paper.
Image

2. Cut out the houses with your craft knife or scissors.
Image

3. All 3 cut out.
Image

4. Punch several scallop edges out of white cardstock and adhere to the roof-line. Also adhere to the ground for snow.
Image

5. Ink edges of the houses and cut a piece of paper to cover the chimney. See the red strip on the right? That is the paper I used for my chimneys.
Image

6. Cut rectangles for doors. Add red brads for doorknobs. Punch a hole in the middle house at the bottom for pointsetta. Glue red ferns to sides of flower. Adhere chipboard pieces, including figures and letters. Cut out green, glitter trees from pp and place on houses too. (I should have taken more pics of these steps along the way. I think I just got too into creating to remember!)
Image

7. Decorate the chimney, roof-line, and scallops with stickles to mimic icicles. I stood the house up to dry overnight so the stickles would drip down a bit.
Image

8. Use a hole puncher (a cropadile works awesomely) to punch 2 holes on the sides of the houses. Thread ribbon through holes and tie the houses together.
Image

9. Display our project!
Image

Now, let's see your holiday creation with scallops! You have until the 15th to post your creation either in on my blog (you can link me), this thread, in the gallery, or even all 3!

All items except for the green trees is from the Christmas Mega kit at Scrapbookdeals4u.com They are all sold out of the first batch. You can email Martha if you would like to be on the wait list for the second batch! sales@scrapbookdeals4u.com

Are you a big fan too? I really love her sketches. Lately she has been designing exclusive sketches for a few different sites. I have used my December ScrapbookDeals4u.com kit for a few of those sketches. Here is the layout I did with the Magpie sketch!

I love this kit! It is so heavy, and full, and beautiful. Martha sold out of the CHristmas Mega kit in record time but has decided to put another set together. Email her if you would like the kit!

Going Green w Christmas Cards

Every Monday until Christmas someone from theScrapbookDeals4U.com DT is going to share with you a fun project they have made for the holidays. I'm up first!

I needed to make some Christmas cards. I had some Thank You Cards in my stash that I was never going to use. They were pretty, but not that exciting. I decided to use those cards as the base for my Christmas Cards. Recycle them in a way!

Here is the starting card:
Image
Nice, but ordinary

I had picked up some super fun Jolly by Golly paper and embellies and was itching to use that paper. It would work too because it has some pink in it and my recycled envelopes were pink.

I started to build my base and wanted to decide whether to use the pink snowman paper (because of the envies) or keep with the greeninsh color scheme.

These were my two choices:
Image
or
Image

I decided the greenish color looked better, but still needed to get some pink on the card for the tie in with the envie!

I decided to use the pink snowman paper on the inside of the card (and I covered up the printed thank you sentiment too).

Image

I then chose some of the Ready Set Chip and stickers from the line that had red or pink in it for the front to help with the envie color. I stamped a sentiment on red cardstock, adhere it and the trim to the card. It needed a little something more so I used my stardust pen on the fronts to finish the cards off.

Here they are:
Image

Fast, cute, and GREEN (in more ways than one!)

And here is a recent layout I did using CC's paper line too!

Image

Thanks for looking and I hope you share with us something you make for the holidays this year. Look forward to our next project next Monday.

This is a picture from Wade's blessing day with all the men that participated. I love this photo too.
This is from this past Easter at Huntington Central Park (or maybe it was 2 Easter's ago).

I haven't been able to figure out the best place to photograph layouts in my new house. I need to figure it out though. These are very shadowy. It was late afternoon.

Monday, October 5, 2009

I teased about the Boo blocks in my other tutorial so I had to make them! I did not use the paper I said I was going to use though. I used the BoBunny paper. Here are some pictures of how to make these blocks.

Start with 3 blocks of wood. Mine are 5 x 3.25 and about 1.5 inches thick. I got the piece of wood at Home Depot, they cut it down for me, and then I brought them home and sanded them. I then painted them with a glossy black paint.

I glue down my solid cardstock. I used a green from my stash.
Image

Then layered over my BoBunny printed paper.
Image

I added the orange cardstock and striped papers down the left side of each block and added a 7 Gypsies word strip.
Image

Then I cut letters with my Cricut, ran them through my Cuttlebug, and glued them to the blocks.
Image

Next I took the BoBunny stickers, trimmed them a bit to fit better on the blocks, and adhered them with pop dots. Then added Kaiser bling to the blocks for a little extra oomph!

So here are the finished blocks:
Image

Image

They are really simple and so fun to make. I get together with my girlfriends and we have a blast putting them together. We actually gave this set to a good friend that didn't make our first set with us and she LOVED them!!! We have made red, white, and blue USA blocks for the 4th, FALL, BOO, HOME, JOY, and HO HO HO so far. We are teaching a class in 2 weeks to a group of ladies and we will be making JOY and Ho Ho Ho there. Should be fun!

Kit Close Up-Wiggly Eyes

Martha include some really cute and fun wiggly eyes with the Halloween Mega kit.

Image
See them there!

I was so excited to play with these. I've never actually used wiggly eyes on a layout before, although I have seen them used and thought they were adorable! Now having done so, I want to run to the store and get more. I loved them! They were easy to stick on with a dot of glue and they transform the little characters into the most adorable little guys!

Here is how I used them -

You know how you get those beautiful papers with large designs on them and you aren't sure how to use them? You don't want to cover it up, but should you cut it out or work around it or just go ahead and layer over it or . . . ? I sometimes get stuck with what to do with these kind of papers.

The Halloween kit had a few of these papers. The design was adorable and I really wanted it to stand out. I found a sketch that I could use with a lot of white space

Image
(pagemaps of course!)

and placed my picture so a lot of the background would show in the white space. To make the background images stand out even more, I added the googly eyes. Now these bats where so cute to begin with. The eyes just really help them to pop off the page!

Image

Image

That was one of the Fancy Pants papers. There was also a Bo Bunny paper with a big design on it.

Image

I really wanted to use the paper as is, without cutting. If I cut the ghosts out I would loose some detail, like the little spiders and the web and the title. I could have used more wiggly eyes here, but I already used what I had on my first layout. I decided to stickle the spider eyes and ghosts to help them pop. I also cut around a tiny part of one ghost that was going to get covered over.

Image

Image

It is hard to see the sparkle in the photos, but its there!

There is one more paper with a large design on it. Its by Fancy Pants.

Image

I think I will cut this up to make some "Boo Blocks." I'll post them when I am done!

2 More

Here are 2 more layouts I did with this kit!

Another Halloween layout. I used the sketch over at http://magpieclub.blogspot.com/ for this layout. I love the results too!
Image
I know I have used this picture over and over but I have 4 kids and had to make them each a layout for their individual books. I should just make one family album!

and I wanted to do a layout that wasn't anything Halloween with the kit. Here it is:

My SD4U Halloween Mega Kit Projects

SD4U has 3 great kits this month and I got to play with the Halloween Mega kit. I've created a bunch of stuff so far. This kit is packed!!!

My first project is this gift bag. Its folded from one piece of 12 x 12 paper! The directions were on the Cosmo Cricket blog last week or so. Its so cute and easy!

This first layout is mostly Bo Bunny Boo Crew products with a little 7 Gypsies and Thickers too.

My wall hanging project using the Fancy Pants journaling cards.

More layouts!

I still have a few things to take pictures of too! I'll post those pages soon. Thanks for looking.

Another June Bug Layout

This was for week 4 of the Treasured Hunt contest. Here are my details.

- one picture only
- at least 3 leaves (I cut these from a piece of June Bug pattern paper)
- stitching - hand stitching around the diamond quilt squares
- some recycled piece of packaging - on the top and bottom edge of the picture matting are pieces from a package of Prima flowers. Its bluish and scallop-y
- journaling of at least 50 words including "I am not willing to..."

I am not willing to admit it. I know, I know. I can see it when I look at this picture. You aren't this little girl anymore. But when I look at you everyday, you are still my little girl! I don't want to admit that you are almost 9. Time is changing you, and ultimately that is a good thing. But still, I am not willing to admit it!"

- original designs only - no sketches, please

I used June Bug pattern paper and stickers
Bazzil scalloped cardstock
Stickles
AC Thickers
Maya Road shear Remember card
Hand punched butterflies
Prima packaging
Misc embroidery thread

Unfortunately I am not moving on, but I will participate in the 2nd chance competition.

Look at all that fun! And this kit really was a lot of fun to work with. I tried to show how the paper can be used with a variety of subjects and for many different events.

Here is my first layout, an indoor boy layout.

A summer baby layout.

A girl layout by the pool (so also summery).

And a baby layout. Aren't those Prima cherry blossoms so pretty?

I know I will get many, many more projects with this kit! I'll post them as I get them done too!

What have you created with June Bug?

ScrapbookDeals4u.com September Kits

They are now for sale in the store. Martha has decided to offer not two, but three kit choices monthly with an occassional speciality kit too. It just so happens that there are 3 regular kits this month and 2 specials! That makes FIVE choices this month. (Actually, we are down to 4 choices because Garden Grove already sold out)

So here they are: The wonderful September kits at Scrapbook Deals 4 U.
